Information systems

The purpose of the business data processing is to study the information systems. The fundamental objective of an information system is to ensure an effective management of information necessary to the operation of the activities of the organizations ether private or public, will their type be industrial, commercial or service. An information system constitutes a construction

  • of informations, which forms a partial representation of the organization properties,
  • of treatments, which handle this information in order to achieve the goals associated with the activities of the organization,
  • of management rules, which control the execution of these treatments,
  • of human and technological ressources whose synergy is useful for the operation of the information system.

The business data processing as academic discipline

The business data processing covers two fields :

  • the development of information systems : it is related to the design, the installation and the use of information systems in order to achieve the goals associated with the organization activities in terms of human, software and hardware resources;
  • the « information systems » function : it relates initially to the management of the development of the information systems within the organization and to the tasks resulting from this. Its purpose is to ensure the operation of these information systems in order to produce a decision-making help support for the persons in charge of the management of the organization (in finance, marketing, production, human resources, general policy).

An information system is supposed to deal with the information of an organization from its production to the presentation resulting from their treatment. Consequently, the information management is central to the information system throughout its development's life cycle :

  • the analysis of the needs, which determines the roles played by information in the organization flows, independently of any technological resource
  • the construction of a functional solution
